WHAT: Johnson County’s largest hospital, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, and Oak Park Mall will unveil a new, state-of–the- art children’s play center, making playtime more fun and interactive at region’s largest shopping mall.
WHEN: Noon to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017
WHERE: Oak Park Mall, Lower Lever, next to Carousel
WHY: In its ongoing commitment for meaningful community collaborations and partnerships, Overland Park Regional Medical Center announces a three-year sponsorship of a renovated and state-of-the-art Children’s Play Area at Oak Park Mall. The updated, carpeted area, located next to the mall’s famous old-fashioned carousel, will feature play pieces where parents can accompany their kids who need to blow off steam during shopping expeditions. The play area is designed to keep kids moving and give them the opportunity to learn about a kid’s hospital.
Santa Claus will be on hand in the Children’s Play Area during the holiday season through Dec. 24. No reservation is required, but a session can be scheduled at Fast Pass and photo packages are available for purchase at http://www.thenewoakparkmall.com/content/holiday.
“We’re thrilled to contribute to the family-friendly atmosphere of our neighbor, the region’s largest shopping mall,” says Overland Park Regional Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Kevin J. Hicks, FACHE. “And it’s an added bonus that we get to unwrap this gift to the community during the holiday season. We hope parents will enjoy the opportunity to let their children have some recreation during busy shopping excursions.”
The free public unveiling of the Children’s Play Area will include hot chocolate, face painting and a selfie station. Santa and his special friends will make a cameo appearance and attendees will even get to help Overland Park Regional Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) grads physically unwrap the area.
The Children’s Play Area, which requires parental supervision, will feature ongoing activities during the year like the Summer Movie Series and other events.
