Advanced Surgical Technology
Overland Park Regional Medical Center offers robotic-assisted surgery as an innovative option for patients. Robot-assisted surgery provides surgeons with greater precision, control and access to hard-to-reach areas, allowing extremely complex operations to be performed through just a few small incisions.
Overland Park Regional Medical Center also offers robotic surgery using two da Vinci® robotic surgical systems. Our surgeons use this technology for a variety of adult and pediatric minimally invasive robotic surgical procedures, including urological, gynecological and general surgery.
With the smaller incisions and greater surgical precision, da Vinci surgery offers important benefits to patients including significantly less pain, less blood loss, less scarring, shorter surgery recovery time and a faster return to normal daily activities.
Using a da Vinci System, the surgeon operates while seated at a console next to the operating table, viewing a 3D image of the surgical field. The surgeon uses master controls located below the display to perform the procedure. The system translates the surgeon’s hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of the surgical instruments inside the patient.
Overland Park Regional Medical Center is the region’s only Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG).
Robotic Arm Assisted Joint Replacement Surgery
Overland Park Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in Johnson County, Kan., offering the Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology for hip and knee joint replacements. This technology allows a surgeon to create a patient-specific 3D plan and perform joint replacement surgery using a surgeon-guided robotic-arm, which helps the physician execute the procedure with a high degree of accuracy.
- First, a patient will get a CT scan of their joint so that your surgeon can generate a 3D model of your unique anatomy.
- Second, the surgeon is able to personalize your surgical plan pre-operatively using the virtual 3D model. This allows for a clear plan on how the surgeon will position the implant before entering the operating room.
- Finally, during surgery your surgeon can validate that plan and make any necessary adjustments, while the robotic-arm then allows the surgeon to execute that plan with a high level of precision.
The combination of these three features, leads to better outcomes and higher patient satisfaction:
- Less pain
- Shorter recovery
- Less time off work or missing family activities
- Up to walk the day of surgery
- Customized joint for your body
After surgery, your surgeon, nurses and physical therapists will set goals with you to get you back on the move. They will closely monitor your condition and progress.
Surgery is often a first-line breast cancer treatment. But unfortunately, both a mastectomy (removal of all of the breast tissue) and lumpectomy (removal of part of the breast tissue) can leave prominent scarring. For many women, this can leave them feeling self-conscious and can be a reminder of surgery and cancer.
At Overland Park Regional Medical Center, we want you to know your breast cancer surgery options so that you can choose a surgeon and a surgery that best fits your needs. In addition to the more traditional surgery options, we provide the Hidden Scar Nipple Sparing Mastectomy and Hidden Scar Lumpectomy procedures.
